Complete Synopsis My Little Pony: A New Generation

My Little Pony: A New Generation is an animated film released on September 24, 2021 by Netflix, directed by Robert Cullen and José Luis Ucha, with Mark Fattibene as co-director. The Film is a continuation of the series My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic and introduces a new generation of ponies in a different world of Equestria, focusing on the themes of unity, diversity and the power of friendship. Here is the most complete synopsis of the film:

Background Story

Plot: in the future of Equestria, the once harmonious world of three pony races—Earth Pony, Pegasus, and Unicorn—is now torn apart. Magic has disappeared from Equestria, and all three races live separately, filled with fear and prejudice. Old stories about interracial friendship are now considered fairy tales, replaced by paranoia and stereotypes. For example, the Earth Pony believed that unicorns could fry brains with their horns, while Pegasus was considered arrogant and dangerous.

Main Characters

The story focuses on Sunny Starscout, a cheerful and idealistic Earth Pony from Maretime Bay. Despite her father's death, Sunny still dreams of a world where all the ponies can be reunited. He is often considered strange by the residents of Maretime Bay because his beliefs are contrary to the norms of society.

Sunny meets with Izzy Moonbow, a creative and eccentric Unicorn from Bridlewood. Izzy, tired of the monotonous life in her community, decides to venture into Matime Bay, unaware of the interracial tensions. Izzy's presence sparks panic in Maretime Bay, but it also catalyzes Sunny's adventure.

Later, they were joined by Hitch Trailblazer, sheriff of Maretime Bay who is loyal to the rules and Sunny's old best friend; Pipp Petals, a princess Pegasus who is well known as a social media star in Zephyr Heights; and Zephyrina “Zipp” Storm, Pipp's rebellious and adventurous older brother rather than living in royal luxury.

Storyline

The Film begins with Sunny attempting to convince the residents of Maretime Bay of the importance of unity, but her efforts are ignored, especially by Sprout, an ambitious and paranoid Earth Pony, The son of local businesswoman Phyllis Cloverleaf. When Izzy arrives at Matime Bay, the residents panic, and Sunny protects Izzy, causing them both to flee the city. Hitch, who feels responsible for Sunny, pursues them.

There, they meet Pipp and Zipp, as well as learn the secret of the Pegasus royal family: Pegasus cannot fly, and they use cables to pretend to have that ability in order to maintain a reputation. The Queen of Haven, Pipp and Zipp's mother, tries to defend this lie, but Zipp, fed up with the falsehood, helps Sunny and Izzy.

Their adventures take the group to Bridlewood, a Unicorn abode filled with strange traditions and a somber atmosphere. There, they learn about three magic crystals—one for each race of ponies—that supposedly hold Equestria's magic. Sunny realizes that these crystals may be the key to restoring the magic and uniting Equestria. However, in order to obtain them, they must face challenges, including convincing a skeptical Unicorn and evading pursuit from Sprout, who now leads an army of Earth ponies with a xenophobic agenda.

Conflict and climax

While Sunny and his friends attempt to collect crystals, Sprout, driven by fear and ambition, builds a giant war machine to “protect” Maretime Bay from other races. He proclaimed himself “Emperor Sprout” and led attacks against other races, exacerbating tensions.

When the crystals are finally collected, Sunny and her friends discover that the crystals are not working as expected. In a moment of despair, Sunny realizes that true magic lies not only in crystals, but in interracial unity and trust. With the help of his friends, he managed to inspire residents of all three races to forgive each other and cooperate. Equestria's magic returns, restoring the ability to fly to Pegasus, magic to unicorns, and power to Earth ponies.

Resolution

The Film ends with Equestria reuniting. Sprout, although initially opposed, eventually learns from his mistakes.

Theme and message

My Little Pony: A New Generation explore themes such as overcoming prejudice, the importance of diversity, and the power of collaboration. The Film teaches that change is possible through courage, empathy, and cooperation, even in the midst of social divisions. With a bright visual style, catchy songs like “Gonna Be My Day” and “Fit Right in,” as well as humor that's friendly to all ages, the film manages to deliver a deep message while still being entertaining.

Reception

The Film was well received for its relevant story, stunning 3D animation, and strong character development. Although some long-time fans miss the character of Friendship is Magic, this new generation of bangs managed to attract the attention of a new audience while still honoring the legacy of the previous series.
