Adapted from a popular webtoon titled Weak Hero (Yakhanyoungwoong) by Seopass and illustrated by Kim Jin-seok, the drama is directed by Yoo Soo-min, who also co-wrote the script with Kim Jin-seok and Park Dan-hee. The series focuses on the action, school drama, and friendship genres, with a focus on bullying issues (bullying), school violence, trauma, and the fight against injustice. Storyline
Weak Hero Class 1 centered on the life of Yeon Si-eun (Park Ji-hoon), a Byeoksan High School student who is known as an exemplary student with extraordinary intelligence, always ranked at the top of her class. However, behind her brilliant academic performance, Si-eun is quiet, introverted, and appears physically weak, making her an easy target for bullying by her envious peers. Although her body is small and lacks prominent physical strength, Si-eun has extraordinary courage, ingenuity, and strategic ability. He makes use of his academic knowledge, such as physical principles, as well as the objects around him to fight the perpetrators bullying in an unexpected way.
The story begins when Si-eun becomes the target of bullying by Jeon Yeong-bin (Kim Su-gyeom), a student who is jealous that Si-eun always outperforms her in exams. Yeong-bin and the group continue to harass Si-eun, but Si-eun never shows any fear. With coolness and clever calculation, he fights back using strategies that overwhelm the bullies. Si-eun's courage attracts the attention of two other students, Ahn Soo-ho (Choi Hyun-wook) and Oh Beom-seok (Hong Kyung), who initially don't care about school life.
Soo-ho is a rebellious student who is good at fighting, has a laid-back yet loyal nature. He begins to support Si-eun after seeing the boy's determination. Meanwhile, Beom-seok is a new student who feels marginalized and has a complicated family background as the adopted son of an official who only uses him for political gain. The three form a strong bond of friendship, banding together to fight violence and bullying at school. Together, they face a variety of conflicts, ranging from small fights to larger threats from school gangs.
However, their friendship begins to crack when Beom-seok feels left out and unappreciated by Si-eun and Soo-ho. Envy and pressure from her personal life, including the violence she experienced from her adoptive father, drive Beom-seok to betray his friends. He allies with a gang of delinquents and commits dangerous acts, such as cutting off Soo-ho's motorcycle brake that causes an accident, to hiring a rookie boxer to fight Soo-ho in a brutal fight. This fight ends tragically, with Soo-ho falling into a coma after being mercilessly beaten, leaving Si-eun in deep guilt and trauma.
At the climax of the story, Si-eun confronts Beom-seok and realizes that her friend's betrayal is rooted in pain and loneliness. Despite successfully overcoming the conflict with the bullies, Si-eun loses many things, including trust in friendship. In the final episode, Beom-seok is forced by his adoptive father to move to the Philippines to cover up the scandal, while Si-eun, still haunted by guilt over Soo-ho's condition, transfers to Eunjang high school to start a new chapter.
