There Will Be Blood

The Film is set during the time of the oil boom in California in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The story centers on Daniel Plainview (played by Daniel Day-Lewis), an ambitious and ruthless silver miner turned oil magnate.

After a worker is killed in an accident at a mine well, Daniel adopts the worker's orphaned son, named H.W. Daniel often uses H.W. as a” business partner “to create an image as a” family man " who can be trusted, in order to smooth his business negotiations with landowners.

One day, Daniel is visited by a young man named Paul Sunday who tells him about a large oil field on his family's farm in Little Boston. Daniel and H.W. went there, pretending to be hunting, and managed to buy the land at a bargain price. However, Paul's twin brother Eli Sunday, a charismatic local pastor who is just as ambitious as Daniel, demands $10,000 for his church. This became the beginning of a long and fierce conflict between Daniel (who represented capitalism and greed) and Eli (who represented religion and hypocrisy).

As Daniel's oil empire grows, he becomes increasingly wealthy, paranoid, and misanthropic. A violent drilling accident causes a massive explosion that makes H.W. permanent loss of hearing. This event worsened Daniel's relationship with his son, the culmination of which he sent him to go to a special school.

The Film traces the moral downfall of Daniel Plainview, driven by greed, rivalry, and hatred. The climax of the film takes place years later inside Daniel's luxurious mansion, where he, now an alcoholic, engages in a brutal and shocking final confrontation with his longtime rival, Eli Sunday.

Suitability for Children's Viewing

“There Will Be Blood” SANGAT TIDAK COCOK untuk ditonton oleh anak-anak.

The Film is an intense and dark psychological drama for an adult audience. Here are the main reasons:

  1. Extreme and Brutal violence: The Film has some very vivid, sudden and shocking scenes of violence. The climax is a brutal murder scene using a bowling pin, which is very inappropriate for children to see. There were also scenes of fatal accidents in mines and other physical violence.
  2. Complex adult themes: The main themes of the film are greed, moral corruption, manipulation, hatred of one's neighbor (misanthropy), religious conflict, and family dysfunction. These are concepts that are heavy, dark, and not designed for a children's audience.
  3. Age Rating: The Film has a rating R (Restricted) in the United States, that means audiences under 17 must be accompanied by a parent or adult guardian. In many other countries, the film received a 15+ or M (Mature) rating. This indicates that the content is explicitly intended for adults.
  4. Pressing atmosphere: The Film has a very dark, intense and often uncomfortable feel to watch. The main character is an anti-hero who is evil and difficult to like.
  5. Alcohol Consumption: The main character is portrayed as a heavy alcoholic, especially in the final part of the film.

In short, the film is a critically acclaimed cinematic work but in no way a family or children's spectacle due to its violent content, themes, and very adult and disturbing atmosphere.
