Storyline

However, his plans fall apart when his mother, Maria (Sumalee Montano), announces a sudden family trip to Michoacán, Mexico, to visit relatives and celebrate local traditions related to the fire festival. Ronnie Anne felt disappointed because she felt that she had lost the opportunity to prove her independence, especially because she wanted to show that she was old enough to make her own decisions.

The two form a bond because they have something in common as teenagers who want to be recognized for their independence, despite often acting impulsively. Meanwhile, the Casagrande family comes together to confront the threat of Ucumu in a distinctive way: full of silliness, cooperation, and a touch of cultural humor. Maria leads the” chancla Warriors, " a group of warriors armed with giant sandals, who become a comical symbol of family power. Bobby is tasked with retrieving the sacred fire stored under Mama Lupe's house, while Lalo, the family dog, helps dig up a giant chancla to fight Ucumu.
The conflict reaches its peak in the epic battlefield in the village. Punguari confronts Ucumu, but is nearly defeated when the evil God begins dragging him inside the skull in his mask. Meanwhile, the Casagrandes use their individual strengths: Frida uses her creativity to create a trap with pieces of paper burned with the sacred fire, and Don Tacho heroically crashes his plane into the Ucumu Army, finishing them off. With the help of the Warrior Chancla, Maria raises a giant chancla, which is then used to attack Ucumu, turning her into a skeleton. Ronnie Anne delivers the final blow by shooting at Ucumu, destroying him and turning all his minions to stone.
At the end of the story, Punguari manages to free his parents who have been frozen and reconcile with them, realizing the importance of the balance between independence and Family Guidance. Ronnie Anne also learns that although she wants to be independent, her family has always been her greatest strength.
