Background Story

The story takes place some time after the events in Sing. Buster Moon, an optimistic koala played by Matthew McConaughey, has managed to rebuild the Moon Theater in the city of Calatonia into a successful local entertainment center. Although initially rejected for not being big enough, Buster manages to convince Crystal with the idea of an ambitious show involving a rock legend, a lion named Clay Calloway (Bono), who has disappeared from the entertainment world for 15 years after the death of his wife. Crystal, tempted by Calloway's big name, gives the green light to the show, but on condition: Buster must make sure Calloway actually performs, or they will all face severe consequences.

Buster and his team must now work hard to prepare for a spectacular show in record time, while facing a variety of personal and professional challenges. They also had to find and convince Clay Calloway to return to the stage, a task that turned out to be much more difficult than they imagined.
