“My Demon” adalah drama Korea Selatan yang tayang perdana pada 24 November 2023 di SBS dan Netflix. This Drama carries the genre of romantic comedy with a touch of fantasy, tells the unexpected meeting between Do Do Hee (played by Kim Yoo Jung), a chaebol heir of Mirae Group who is cold, arrogant, and skeptical of love, with Jung Gu Won (played by Song Kang), a handsome devil who has lived for centuries. The story progresses from hilarious misunderstandings to deeper relationships, tinged with family conflicts, power struggles at Mirae Group, and mysteries surrounding Jung Gu Won's supernatural powers. With 16 episodes of approximately 70 minutes each, the drama offers a compelling combination of humor, romance, and fantasy elements, supported by the strong chemistry between the two leads as well as eye-catching visuals.
Suitability for Children's Viewing
“My Demon " is less suitable as a spectacle for children, especially those who are still under the age of adolescence (under 13 years old). Here are some reasons:
- Adult themes and content: The play contains themes such as contracted marriages, family intrigues, and supernatural deals involving the human psyche, which may be difficult to understand or too complex for children. In addition, there are elements of intense romance and emotional conflict that are more appropriate for young or mature adult audiences.
- Supernatural elements and Light violence: The presence of demons and the concept of soul retrieval can seem frightening or confusing to young children. Although not very graphic, there are some scenes of tension or mild violence (such as threats or attacks) that may not be appropriate for a young audience.
- Humor and dialogue: The comedy in this drama is more aimed at an audience that can catch sarcasm or absurd situations, which are usually easier for teenagers or adults to understand. The dialogue also sometimes contains innuendo or references that are irrelevant to children.
- Rating and Target audience: With an IMDb rating of 8.2 and a focus on love stories and corporate intrigue, “My Demon” clearly targets a teen-to-adult audience that loves romance-fantasy Korean dramas.
However, this drama can be a safe and interesting spectacle for teenagers (age 13 and over) with parental supervision, especially if they are already familiar with Korean dramas and like light fantasy stories. For younger children, it should be replaced with simpler, cheerful, and free from supernatural elements or complex conflicts, such as animation or family drama.

With a total of 16 episodes, the drama managed to captivate a global audience with an IMDb rating of 8.2 and entered Netflix's top 10 list in several countries. Here is the complete synopsis of My Demon.
Background and beginning of the story
My Demon Do Do-hee (Kim Yoo-jung), a chaebol heir who is cold and skeptical of love, and Jung Gu-won (Song Kang), a 200-year-old demon who lives eternally by making dangerous covenants with humans. Do Do-hee is the young CEO of Mirae F & B, a subsidiary of the Mirae Group conglomerate. He is known to be arrogant, stubborn, and focused on his work, earning him the nickname “devil” by those around him. After losing both her parents when she was 11, Do-hee is adopted by Joo Cheon-sook (Kim Hae-sook), the founder of Mirae Group, who treats her as a favorite child despite not being of her blood and flesh. Hal ini memicu kecemburuan dari anak-anak biologis Cheon-sook, seperti Noh Seok-min (Kim Tae-hoon), CEO Mirae Electronics, dan Noh Soo-an (Lee Yoon-ji), CEO Mirae Apparel.
On the other hand, Jung Gu-won is a handsome demon who has been roaming the world for two centuries. Derived from the ancient Greek term “daimon” (divisor of fate), Gu-won collects human souls by fulfilling their desires through bloody contracts. After 10 years, he took their souls in return. Gu-won looks down on humans, seeing them as weak creatures who are easily seduced. However, his life changes when he meets Do Do-hee by accident.
Meeting and marriage contract
The story begins with a funny but crucial misunderstanding. Do Do-hee, whom Cheon-sook often arranges dates with to find a partner, mistakes Gu-won for her potential date when they meet at a restaurant. Gu-won, who just wants to be alone, responds with coldness, but her mysterious charm catches Do-hee's attention. This encounter becomes a turning point when, in an unexpected incident, Gu-won loses his demonic powers after coming into contact with Do-hee. As it turns out, Gu-won's powers have mysteriously passed to Do-hee, making her the key to restoring Gu-won's immortality.
To prevent her extinction, Gu-won is forced to make a deal with Do-hee: a contract marriage. Gu-won must protect Do-hee, who is now a target of danger due to the demonic powers she possesses, while Do-hee agrees to help Gu-won recover her powers. Although initially full of tension and distrust, their relationship begins to develop. Do-hee, who is cynical towards love, begins to see Gu-won's human side, while Gu-won, who has always been indifferent, begins to feel emotions that are alien to her.
Mirae Group family conflicts and intrigues
While Do-hee and Gu-won's relationship develops, the drama also highlights the intrigue within Mirae Group. Do-hee faces threats from the Noh family, especially Noh Seok-min and his son, Noh Do-kyung (Kang Seung-ho), who are jealous that Do-hee is considered the ultimate successor to the company. When Do-hee learns of Seok-min's plan to destroy Mirae F&B, she receives a mysterious phone call from an accountant offering confidential information to secure her position as head of Mirae Group. However, this information leads Do-hee into a deeper web of conspiracy.
At the same time, Gu-won begins to uncover the secrets of his past related to Do-hee. Through dreams and flashbacks, it is revealed that Gu-won once fell in love with a servant named Wolsim in the Joseon era, who turns out to be Do-hee's reincarnation. Their relationship in the past ends tragically when Wolsim is murdered, and Gu-won, then still a human named Seo Yi-sun, becomes a demon after making a contract with the dark forces for revenge. This discovery adds to the complexity of their relationship, as Gu-won's love for Do-hee carries the risk of losing her immortality.
Peak of conflict and sacrifice
In the second half of the drama, tensions rise when Gu-won and Do-hee face threats from Noh Seok-min, who turns out to be harboring a dark secret related to Joo Cheon-sook's death. Gu-won, who begins to prioritize Do-hee's safety over her immortality, repeatedly risks his life to protect her. One of the crucial moments occurs when Gu-won saves Do-hee from a deadly attack, but as a result he loses more of his strength. Meanwhile, Do-hee, who initially doesn't believe in love, begins to open her heart and realizes that she can't live without Gu-won.
The climax of the story takes place in the final fight against Seok-min, who reveals his evil intentions to destroy Do-hee and take over the Mirae Group. This confrontation not only tests Gu-won's strength as a demon, but also Do-hee's courage as a human. In an emotional moment, Gu-won is faced with a difficult choice: maintain his immortality or sacrifice everything for the sake of his true love. Meanwhile, Do-hee fights to protect Cheon-sook's legacy and prove that she is worthy of leading Mirae Group.
Cover and story message
My Demon closing the story with a sweet but meaningful tone. Gu-won and Do-hee's relationship evolves from a contract marriage full of ambiguity into a true love that transforms them both. Gu-won, who was originally a heartless demon, rediscovers his humanity through love, while Do-hee learns to trust others and opens his heart. The Drama also explores themes of sacrifice, courage, and the power of love to overcome trauma and conflict.
Although some viewers felt the second half of the play lost momentum due to the slightly repetitive plot, My Demon it remains to be praised for the incredible chemistry between Kim Yoo-jung and Song Kang, the stunning visuals, and the heartfelt execution of the story. The Drama managed to record more than 12 million viewers in its first week in South Korea and became a hot topic on social media with more than 50,000 mentions for the hashtag #MyDemon on Twitter (now X) after the last episode aired on January 20, 2024.
