The theme of friendship and teamwork can be a positive value. Creative alien visuals can also provoke a child's imagination.

Harsh language is minimal, but some jokes may be more suitable for a teenage or adult audience. The concept of time travel can confuse young children.

Major Conflicts
The story centers on Serleena, an evil alien of the Kylothian species who disguises herself as a Victoria's Secret human underwear model to hide her identity. Serleena comes to Earth in search of the “light of Zartha,” a mysterious artifact said to have incredible cosmic powers. According to history, Zartha's light was hidden by the MIB on Earth in 1978 after a battle with Zarthan, but the details were only known to K, who led the mission before erasing his own memories.

Serleena, along with her henchmen Charlie and Scrad (played by Johnny Knoxville), a stupid but loyal duo of two-headed aliens, attack the MIB headquarters and take over control. They free alien prisoners, including dangerous creatures like the Ballchinian, and cause chaos. J, the sole surviving agent, realizes that the only way to stop Serleena is to restore K's memories of Zartha's Light Mission.
Travel Stories
J travels to Massachusetts to find K and bring him back to MIB headquarters. To restore K's memories, J uses the “deneuralyzer” device at the post office where K works, which is full of eccentric employees who turn out to be fans of alien conspiracy theories. The process is successful, but K is initially still confused and struggles to remember details about Zartha's light. Meanwhile, Serleena continues to search for clues, attacking anyone thought to know about the artifact, including killing Ben, the owner of a friendly pizzeria (played by Jack Kehler).

J and K begin to investigate, aided by several supporting characters, including Frank, a chatty alien pug (voiced by Tim Blaney), and the Worms, coffee-loving little aliens who live at MIB headquarters. They also meet Laura Vasquez (Rosario Dawson), a waitress at a pizzeria who has a mysterious connection to the mysteries of Zartha. J begins to take an interest in Laura, but K warns that emotional involvement with humans can be dangerous for MIB agents.
The search leads J and K to traces of the past, including a visit to a mysterious video store run by an alien (played by Tony Shalhoub) named Jack Jeebs. They discover that Zartha's light is not actually a physical object as assumed, but rather something much more personal and emotional. However, before they can act, Serleena captures Laura, who turns out to be the key to this mystery, and threatens to destroy the Earth if Zartha's light is not turned over.
Klimaks
In the climax of the story, J and K track Serleena to Liberty Island, where a major confrontation takes place. Serleena reveals her true form as a monstrous giant plant creature, while J and K use MIB's advanced weapons, including a blaster and clever tactics, against her. They also have to deal with time running out, as Zartha's light must leave Earth before a certain cosmic deadline, or the Earth will be destroyed.

In this battle, the relationship between J and K is strengthened, with K again demonstrating his skills as a legendary agent, while J proves that he has developed into a competent leader. Laura finally reveals her true identity, which is inextricably linked to the light of Zartha, and a difficult decision must be made to save the Earth, even if it means a personal sacrifice for J.
Resolution
After defeating Serleena, J and K return to MIB headquarters to tidy up the mess. K chooses to remain in the MIB, realizing that his life as an agent is his true calling, although he retains his stoic nature. J, on the other hand, learns to accept the truth about Laura and focus on his duties as an agent. The Film closes with an iconic scene in which J reveals to K that the universe is wider than they imagined, with the camera moving away to show that Earth is just a small part of a giant “cosmic locker”.
