Compatibility with Children
Lembaga censor Film (LSF) Indonesia classifies “Jagat Arwah " for age audiences 13 years and above, which means the film is not recommended for children under that age without parental guidance. Here is an analysis of its compatibility with children:
-
Content and themes
- The Film contains mystical and supernatural elements, such as apparitions of spirits (Kuntilanak, Genderuwo) as well as scenes related to death and rituals. Although spirits are not designed to scare to the extreme, this theme can be confusing or cause fear for children who do not yet understand the concept of death or the supernatural world.
- Narratives about the search for identity and responsibility may be too complex for children under 13, as they require a more mature emotional understanding and cultural context.
-
-
Visual and effects
- The use of intense CGI, such as supernatural light or the transformation of spirits, can attract children's attention visually. However, some scenes—for example, the meeting with Genderuwo or Kuntilanak—may still feel tense even though they are not too horror.
- There are no reports of graphic violence or excessive gore, so the film is relatively “light” compared to other modern horror.
-
-
Moral Message
- The Film offers positive values such as the importance of accepting responsibility, respecting family traditions, and finding self-identity. This message can be the subject of an educational discussion for older children (adolescents), especially if accompanied by parents.
-
-
Recommendations for children
- Children under 13 years old: Less suitable unattended. Mystical elements and tense atmosphere may trigger fear or misinterpretation, especially for children who are sensitive to horror stories.
- Teenagers (13 years and older): Very suitable, especially for those who like fantasy stories with a touch of local culture. The Film is safe to watch because it does not rely on excessive jumpscare or inappropriate content.
-
Conclusion
"Jagat Arwah" is a unique fantasy horror film with a softer narrative approach compared to horror in general, making it an attractive choice for teenagers. However, for children under 13, there should be parental assistance to explain mystical elements and make sure they are comfortable with the theme presented. If your child is easily scared or is not yet familiar with occult-themed stories, this film may not be the best choice.
