Maki Zen’in

Background

Maki Zenin comes from the Zenin clan, one of the three greatest Mage clans in the world Jujutsu Kaisen, which are known for their strength and conservative traditions. However, Maki was born without significant cursed energy, a rare condition that made her considered “disabled” by her family. Within the Zenin clan who highly valued magical abilities, Maki was considered inferior, despised, and treated as an outcast. Despite this, Maki has a strong determination to prove her worth and defies the clan's expectations by becoming a powerful witch without relying on Curse energy.

Maki is the twin sister of Mai Zenin, and their relationship is complicated, marked by affection hidden behind conflicts due to clan pressure. Maki leaves the Zenin clan to pursue her dream of becoming a first-class magician and attends Tokyo Jujutsu High School, where she becomes part of a group of main protagonists such as Yuji itadori, Megumi Fushiguro, and Nobara Kugisaki.

Personality

Maki is a stubborn, decisive and goal-oriented character. He has a firm, straightforward demeanor, and often appears cold or sarcastic, especially toward those he considers weak or incompetent. However, behind her tough demeanor, Maki has a caring side, especially towards her friends at the Tokyo Jujutsu School. He highly values hard work and dedication, reflecting his own struggle to overcome the limitations given by his birth.

Maki is very independent and has a rebellious spirit against the patriarchal and discriminatory traditions of the Zenin clan. She refuses to submit to the expectation that she must live as an “ordinary woman” and instead seeks to destroy the system that oppresses her. Her determination makes her an inspiration to other characters, especially to those who feel marginalized.

However, Maki also has a complex emotional side. His relationship with Mai shows that he feels guilty for the pressure his sister is under because of her decision to leave the clan. His later character development shows a dramatic transformation, in which he becomes increasingly violent and focused on his goals, especially after a traumatic event involving the Zenin clan.

Appearance

Maki has an appearance that reflects her tough and practical personality. Here are the details of its appearance:

  • Hair: Maki has long black hair (sometimes depicted with a slight greenish tint in the manga), which is usually tied in a high ponytail to maintain practicality while fighting. After a certain event, her hair became shorter and slightly disheveled, reflecting a drastic change in her character.
  • Eyes: He initially wears thin-rimmed glasses due to his poor eyesight due to a lack of curse energy, which makes him unable to see curse spirits without AIDS. However, after his transformation, his eyesight improved dramatically, and he no longer needed glasses.
  • Clothing: As a Tokyo Jujutsu School student, Maki wears a modified school uniform, consisting of a sleeveless navy jacket, short skirt, and boots. He often carried a curse weapon on his back. After leaving school, his clothes became simpler and more functional, often with long coats and clothes that supported mobility.

  1. Pembatasan Surgawi (Heavenly Restriction):
    • Maki was born with Heavenly restrictions, which removed her curse energy but gave her superhuman physical strength, speed, and endurance. This puts him on a par with characters like Toji Fushiguro, who also has a similar condition.
    • After losing the rest of her curse energy as a result of a certain event, Maki's Heavenly restriction reached its peak, making her almost matchless in physical combat. He becomes very similar to Toji in terms of ability, with incredible reflexes, strength, and dexterity.
  2. Weapon Skills:
    • Maki is an expert in using various curse weapons, especially spear, sword, and stick type weapons. He is very skilled in close combat and can defeat curse spirits with only physical weapons.
    • One of its iconic weapons is Split Soul Katana, a replica of the Toji fushiguro weapon, capable of cutting through an opponent's soul, causing damage that cannot be healed by ordinary curse techniques.
  3. Intelligence and strategy:
    • Maki is a smart fighter, able to quickly analyze the situation and exploit the opponent's weaknesses. He often fights with efficiency and precision, compensating for the lack of curse techniques with strategy and skill.
  4. Physical Condition:
    • Maki's physical strength allows her to destroy walls, jump long distances, and survive attacks that would injure an ordinary Mage. After his transformation, he was even able to deal with high-level opponents such as special-grade curse spirits without difficulty.
