Background and early life
Vino Giovanni Bastian was born in Jakarta on March 24, 1982 as the youngest child of Bastian Tito and Hj. Herna Debby. His father, Bastian Tito, was a famous novelist who created the legendary character Wiro Sableng, while his mother was of Minahasa blood. Despite coming from a family of artists, Vino was not pampered and educated with high discipline to be independent. He was not directed to pursue art or writing like his father, but was obliged to complete a formal education.
Vino showed an interest in art from adolescence. While in junior high, he began playing music as a drummer and often performed with his school band. Vino's appearance at a high school performing arts event caught the attention of a reporter, who then offered her to take part in a magazine model photo shoot. From here, Vino joined the Platinum modeling agency and began a career in entertainment.
Although he had wanted to study at the Department of design at The Jakarta Art Institute, Vino did not receive the blessing of his parents. He eventually continued his studies at the Indonesian Institute of Technology, majoring in Chemical Engineering, and successfully graduated as a bachelor.
