Early life and family

Skywalker was born in Toronto but grew up on a farm where internet access was minimal. She grew up reading books, especially Laura Ingalls Wilder's, which were a big part of her childhood—something that felt very “kismet” when she landed a role in Little House on the Prairie.

His mother, Christina Beth Hughes (also an actress), became his talent manager since childhood. His father had served in the United States Marine Corps and is often described as a figure who kept him “grounded”. He was one of five children (four siblings). The name “Skywalker " is his real name, not a stage name. The story comes from his grandfather surnamed Walker. The grandfather wanted to have a boy named Jay (because "jaywalking" sounds funny), but a girl was born, so he asked one of his daughters to name his grandson Skywalker. Skywalker himself is a big fan Star Wars and once joked that if you later have children, all of them will be given the middle name Walker.

Ethnically, he has Puerto Rican (from paternal grandmother), Scottish, English, Irish, and possibly Hungarian ancestry.

While auditioning, he was initially unaware that it was a reboot Little House—he just loves the dialogue-and then was very surprised because the books have been part of his life since childhood.
