Biography
Kim Soo-hyun (Hangul: 김수현; Hanja: 金秀賢) was born on February 16, 1988 in Seoul, South Korea. He is one of the most famous and influential actors in South Korea, known for his outstanding acting skills and widespread popularity in Asia. Kim began his career in entertainment after taking acting classes at his mother's suggestion to overcome his introverted nature while still in school. Her television debut began in 2007 with a supporting role in the family sitcom Kimchi Cheese Smile.
His name began to gain widespread recognition in 2011 through the teen musical drama Dream High, where he played a rural youth who turned out to be a musical genius. His popularity surged dramatically in 2012 when he starred in the historical drama Moon Embracing the Sun as King Lee Hwon, earning him the Best Actor award at the Baeksang Arts Awards. His career continued to shine brightly with roles in the box-office films The Thieves (2012) and Secretly, Greatly (2013), as well as the fantasy romance drama My Love from the Star (2013-2014) alongside Jun Ji-hyun, which became a phenomenon across Asia.
Kim Soo-hyun is one of the highest-paid actors in South Korea and has received numerous prestigious awards, including five Baeksang Arts Awards, two Grand Bell Awards, and one Blue Dragon Film Award. He has also been listed on Forbes Korea Power Celebrity 40 and 30 Under 30 Asia. In addition to acting, Kim is known as the “Endorsement King” for being the face of over 35 products at the height of his popularity. After completing his military service on July 1, 2019, he returned to the small screen with successful projects such as It’s Okay to Not Be Okay (2020) and Queen of Tears (2024).
