Biography
Benedict Wong is an English actor born July 3, 1971 in Eccles, Greater Manchester, England. He was born to immigrant parents from Hong Kong who migrated to the UK via Ireland. Wong grew up in the Salford area and was educated in performing arts at Salford City College for two years. His career began in the theater world before he switched to the screen and the big screen.
Wong first appeared in a BBC radio drama titled Kai Mei Sauce in 1993, written by his cousin, Kevin Wong. He then landed roles in various British television productions, including sitcoms 15 Storeys High (2002–2004). His significant film Debut came in 2003 through Dirty Pretty Things, which earned him a British Independent Film Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor.
In the decade of the 2010s, Wong began to be widely known internationally thanks to his role as Kublai Khan in the Netflix series Marco Polo (2014-2016), Bruce Ng in film The Martian (2015), and as Wong, a wizard from the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), who first appeared in Doctor Strange (2016). He also received praise for his performance in the film Nine Days (2020), yang mengantarkannya pada nominasi Independent Spirit Award.
