Full Series Synopsis Star Wars: Andor
Star Wars: Andor is an American political spy thriller and science fiction television series created by Tony Gilroy for Disney+. Five years before the event Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (2016), the series follows the journey of Cassian Andor, a thief who transforms into a spy and rebel leader, as well as explores the formation of a rebel alliance opposing the Galactic Empire. The series consists of two seasons with a total of 24 episodes, which offer a darker, adult and realistic tone compared to the project Star Wars others, focusing on the life of ordinary people under Imperial oppression.
Background and premise
The series takes place in an era before A New Hope (1977), tepatnya sekitar 5 BBY (Before Battle of Yavin). The Galactic Empire, led by Emperor Palpatine, rules the galaxy with an iron fist, exploiting the planets and oppressing their inhabitants. In the midst of this chaos, the seeds of rebellion began to emerge independently in different corners of the Galaxy. Andor describes how individuals, including Cassian Andor, are involved in the struggle against tyranny, as well as how rebel alliances are formed from fragmented underground movements.
The story focuses on Cassian Andor (Diego Luna), a cynical thief from the planet Canary who was destroyed by The Empire. The series traces his transformation from a man indifferent to the revolution to a hero willing to make sacrifices in order to save the galaxy, as seen in Rogue One. In addition to Cassian, the series also features a rich ensemble cast, including such figures as Mon Mothma, Luthen Rael, and Bix Caleen, each of whom plays an important role in the fight against the Empire.
First Season (2022)
The first season, consisting of 12 episodes, was released from September 21, 2022 on Disney+. The season spans a year in Cassian's life and is divided into several narrative arcs depicting his initial journey towards rebellion.
Title: life at the Ferris wheel
Cassian Andor, who lives in the industrial town of Ferrix, is a thief and smuggler trying to survive under imperial rule. He searches for his missing sister and lives a life far removed from the idealism of rebellion. At Ferrix, he is raised by his adoptive mother, Maarva Andor (Fiona Shaw), and his adoptive father, Clem Andor (Gary Beadle), after being rescued from a canary as a child. Cassian has a close relationship with Bix Caleen (Adria Arjona), a mechanic and black market trader who becomes his ally.
The story begins when Cassian accidentally kills two preox-Morlana (Pre-Mor) security officers on the planet Morlana One after an incident at a nightclub. This action attracts the attention of Syril Karn (Kyle Soller), an ambitious and determined pre-Mor inspector who catches him. To escape, Cassian enlists Bix's help to sell the Empire's stolen technology, which links him to Luthen Rael (Stellan Skarsgård), a mysterious rebel agent operating under the guise of an art dealer in Coruscant.
Mission in Aldhani
Luthen recruits Cassian to join a high-risk mission on the planet Aldhani, where a group of rebels, led by Vel Sartha (Faye Marsay), plan to steal the Imperial Garrison's salary. Cassian, menggunakan alias “Clem,” bergabung dengan tim yang terdiri dari Karis Nemik (Alex Lawther), Arvel Skeen (Ebon Moss-Bachrach), dan Taramyn Barcona (Gershwyn Eustache Jnr). The mission exposes the internal dynamics of the rebel group, including Nemik's idealism and Skeen's opportunistic nature. Despite the successful mission, Cassian begins to understand the importance of the fight against the Empire, although he still hesitates to fully commit.
Detention in Narkina 5
After Aldhani, Cassian is arrested for a minor misunderstanding on the planet Niamos and sentenced to imprisonment in the Imperial prison facility on Narkina 5. Here, he meets Kino Loy (Andy Serkis), a prisoner who becomes a floor supervisor. Life in prison revealed the cruelty of the Empire, with brutal working conditions and strict supervision. Cassian, along with other prisoners, planned a rebellion after learning that the Empire had never released prisoners. This rebellion succeeds in freeing many prisoners, but Kino chooses not to escape, leaving Cassian with a heavy lesson in sacrifice.
The peak at Ferrix
On the other hand, the Luthenes and their network of rebels, including Senator Mon Mothma (Genevieve O'reilly), struggle to fund and coordinate the rebellion. Mon Mothma faces political challenges in Coruscant, trying to hide her anti-imperial activities from her husband and colleagues. Meanwhile, Dedra Meero (Denise Gough), an officer of the Imperial Security Bureau (ISB), begins investigating rebel activity, including traces of Cassian and Luthen.
The first season culminates in a riot in Ferrix after the death of Maarva, who in her holographic speech inspires the population to fight the Empire. Cassian, who returns to attend his mother's funeral, is rescued by Bix and his allies from Imperial pursuit. At the end of the season, Cassian decides to fully join the rebellion, offering himself to Luthen as an asset. Luthen, originally intending to kill Cassian to cover the trail, chooses to believe him, marking a turning point in Cassian's journey.
Second Season (2025)
The second season, which also consists of 12 episodes, was released from April 22, 2025 on Disney+ and ended on May 13, 2025. The season spans four years leading up to the events Rogue One, with the narrative divided into four arcs, each spanning one year (4 BBY to 0 BBY). This season deepens Cassian's struggles as a rebel intelligence officer and highlights the escalating conflict between the Rebel Alliance and The Empire.
First year (4 BBY)
The second season begins one year after the events of the first season. Cassian, now more involved in the rebellion, carries out espionage missions for the Luthenes. One of the early missions involved an attempt to steal a prototype of Imperial technology, but Cassian was captured by another unorganized rebel group, who mistook him for an Imperial pilot. This situation revealed the fragmented nature of the initial uprising, in which small groups operated without coordination.
Elsewhere, Bix, still traumatized by Imperial torture in season one, struggles to recover on the planet Mina-Rau. The presence of Imperial forces on the planet forces Bix and Wilmon Paak (Muhannad Bhaier) to confront a new threat. Meanwhile, Mon Mothma continues to balance his role as a senator and supporter of the rebellion, facing pressure from Imperial oversight. Orson Krennic (Ben Mendelsohn), antagonis dari Rogue One, appears as the director of The Death Star Project, which began to take shape with the exploitation of planets like Ghorman.
Second to fourth year (3 BBY – 0 BBY)
The next three arcs show Cassian's maturation as a leader and spy. Ia bekerja sama dengan tokoh-tokoh seperti Saw Gerrera (Forest Whitaker) dan K-2SO (Alan Tudyk), droid yang direprogram untuk membantu pemberontak. Cassian faces moral dilemmas while undertaking increasingly risky missions, including betrayal and sacrifice. One notable event was the massacre at Ghorman, where the Empire expelled the population to mine minerals for The Death Star, sparking Galactic outrage and strengthening support for the rebellion.
Mon Mothma takes a bold step by publicly opposing Palpatine, announcing his support for The Rebel Alliance. Meanwhile, Syril Karn, who now works for the ISB, continues to pursue Cassian, despite eventually meeting his end in one of the confrontations. Bix, after struggling with her trauma, chooses to abandon active struggle, seeking peace elsewhere. Luthen Rael, as the mastermind behind many of the operations, faced questions about the extent of the sacrifices required for victory.
Climax and relationship with Rogue One
The second season ends just before the events Rogue One, with Cassian fully becoming a dedicated rebel leader. The series depicts how the Rebel Alliance becomes an organized force, with Cassian playing a key role in intelligence missions. The climax of the season highlights the personal sacrifices of Cassian and his allies, as well as the price paid for opposing the Empire. The series closes with a smooth transition to Rogue One, in which Cassian leads a mission to steal the Death Star's plans, knowing that his sacrifice will change the fate of the Galaxy.
Theme and reception

The series depicts the Empire as a corrupt authoritarian government, focusing on its impact on the daily lives of galactic citizens.
